Naviglio, cuore di Milano
Milan the "city of water" is re-lived in these surreal images. Not just to remember the past, but to make it possible to have hope for the future.
Milan the fluid like city. Its residents, dynamic, busy and at times a bit distracted. Milan, the European city with citizens of every ethnic origin. Milan with its own dialect and many languages. Milan, the city that wants to speak.
Like an X-ray, this sequence of photographs take an indepth scan and listens to the pulsing heart of the "water city"; in equilibrium between the modern post-industrial and art, between new prospectives and antiquity in the search of a golden agreement between the citizen and the city in which he lives.
This selection of 15 of the 18 black and white images have been achieved by digitally reprocessing prints that were taken along the 'Cerchia dei Navigli' at different points over the last century. It approaches and merges images from the beginning of the 1900's and of the present day metropolis that demonstrates the priceless historical, architectual and aesthetical heritage of the Naviglio area that leads to the heart of the city. This process has given shape and life to the streets and squares that define the future of Milan from the waves of its past.
