Burlesque voodoo
This work was born in the last months of 2009 and developed all throughout 2010. Always being attracted by underground cultures, metropolitan tribes, and particular forms of humanity, I got to know the world of Neo Retrò and burlesque in the exact moment in which it became a mass movement, after being a underground and elite movement.
I got to know people from the Vodoo "De Luxe" (nowadays one of the most well-known burlesque agencies in Italy) during one of their first evenings here in Milan. This meeting opened up the doors of a very extended reality to me, in time and space, here in Italy and more. It was immediate fascination, not only because of what my eyes could see, but because of the whole aura that surrounded each person I met, time by time.
It is not only about the burlesque and the love for RetrÚ style; behind each person lies a whole lifestyle that I got to know and understand.
I tried to imagine how strong the feeling of being somewhere else during these meetings is, how these people live in a "parallel reality" with respect to the contemporary one, when they are together.The tribe of Retrò has it's world, it's rituals and it's codes, and I wanted to show a part of it in these images.
