.PRESENZE.
The city closes its eyes, it doesn’t hear. Denial, refusal, apathy. Milano doesn’t know what lives beneath its skin, or better it doesn’t want to know. And the same goes for its perfect citizens, trapped in a fake TV happiness, while outside there’s malaise.
The outskirts of society, a concept which defines places, people and specific ways of life, but is often idealized. These areas have got a real strength, they are attractive poles for those living at the margins of our fake society: metropolitan hopeless, enemies of the city, people who are cuddled by metropolitan and social exclusion. Tragic zones of a metropolis which denies, shuns and marginalizes people whose underground lives wander purposeless, excluded by the world that lives above their heads. They are presences, vague in shape, without identity, unknown by the common people who walks the same streets in the daylight and who deny the same places at night, making of them outcasts’ holes. So here it is the double aspect of these concrete corners that tell stories of neglected lives, of communication and comprehension refusal.
The photography’s task is, therefore, to give shape to the abstract vision of masses, to give back reality to those spaces, without avoiding their dream side: the charm of abyss, of restlessness, the inconvenience and its presences.
