Luna Park
Discovering the carnies. An ancient craft that marvels and enchants.
A journey through the families of the operators of the traveling show (carnies) to dispel prejudices and re-evaluate the humanity of those who live borderline. Folks that is observed far away, left to the edge. But the carousels offer a world upside down: freedom, a break off from the daily life.
In 2008, for six months I came into contact with this world.
Stefany Piccaluga, alias Stuccy, was the first to welcome me into her large family and then let me begin this wonderful adventure of travel and friendship.
I crossed highways between caravans and caravans, mobile neighborhoods in which life seems to be a continuous series of hectic chores and children who run in wild way and play freely. People with heart in motion, riding life on four wheels.
I shared the table with them, laughing and joking. I was fascinated in the stories of their ancient stories involving the taste of fairy tales, women with two heads, galleons, pirates and moats full of snakes.
Strong and courageous women I have known, of all ages, capable of knowing how to handle every kind of adversity, from taking care of the house, to know how to fix a plumbing pipe to drive a truck perfectly.
" A lifestyle in which we must be born just to endure. Here people come to have fun, but do not know that perhaps not for all it's Sunday. "
