Reflections on identity and work. Revolution is the moment in which people unite until they loose themselves in the everyday behavior of individualistic society.
From September 2011 to November 2012, Wind Spa employees fought to stop the outsourcing of 1700 colleagues.
In that eventful moment of strikes and assemblies many who were not accustomed to engaging themselves in union activities, soon adopted a very different identity.
This new attitude allowed workers to strongly oppose the crisis apparently used by Company management which was not justified by their good economic results.
If the outsourcing operation would have been successful, the existence of Wind could have possibly been at risk, because of the meaningless idea of separating a fundamental department from the company's body.
After the unexpected employee uprising, an agreement was signed and the Company accepted to abandon the outsourcing strategy, in exchange for savings and sacrifices sustained mainly by the workforce.
When the common fight ended, the previous social climate returned and the mutual support between colleagues suddenly declined.
No one speaks anymore about the avoided troubles preferring to forget and dissimulate the moments of creativity and commitment that united so many.
Personal identities that were clear and apparent seem now dark and blurred. Provisional.
In part of the reportage, workers are on the streets during the strikes. In these images, despite their precarious situation, they often appear happy.
Other photos, in contrast to the first ones, are intentionally blurred to represent the calm and undefined daily working routine.
The comparison between these antithetic atmospheres, belonging to the same people, inspired the photographer to reflect on the nature of the human being, on how people can change their own personality in such a short time and on our real identities.
Once again the unresolved question is why does the best of ourselves emerge only during crisis?
